Travel Insurance for Coronavirus/COVID-19 Coverage

Trawick International® travel insurance plans provide hard to find coverage for COVID-19. We have several plans to choose from depending on your needs and requirements.

Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption Travel Protection Plans

Trip Cancellation Travel Protection Plans provides reimbursement for unused, non-refundable trip cost if you are prevented from taking your trip. Trip Interruption provides reimbursement for unused, non-refundable costs if the trip is interrupted, along with reimbursement for the additional transportation cost to return home or rejoin your trip.

Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption will provide coverage due to a sickness or death of a traveler, traveling companion or non-traveling family member. The Coronavirus/COVID-19 will be treated as any other sickness for all illness related losses. As an example, in the event you, your traveling companion or non-traveling family member were to become ill prior to your departure date, our plans would provide reimbursement for the non-refundable trip costs. If while traveling, you or your traveling companion becomes ill, our plans would reimburse for the lost days of your trip, along with medical expenses incurred during your trip. Additionally, our plans would provide coverage in the event an emergency evacuation or if repatriation of remains were needed. Our plans also provide trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage for quarantine, bankruptcy of the travel supplier or if you are terminated or laid-off.

Cancel for Any Reason “CFAR” is the most popular and hard to find benefit in the market today! This benefit is available on our Safe Travels First Class and Safe Travels Voyager travel plans. With this benefit, you can cancel your trip for any reason. This means if change your mind and decide you no longer want to travel, change your plans, you are scared to travel, etc., Cancel for any reason will reimburse you up to 75% of your non-refundable trip cost. Additionally, we have expanded our cancel for any reason availability to 21 days from your initial deposit, giving our customers additional time to purchase this important added benefit. This enhanced benefit is available on our newest trip cancellation plan, Safe Travels Voyager.

With concerns of future pandemics, we have enhanced some of our trip cancellation plans to cover you should the US Government issue a level 4 travel advisory, advising you not to travel to your destination country or region. This gives you an added level of coverage if the government advises you not to travel and you now need to seek reimbursement for your non-refundable travel expenses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some general answers to questions we are receiving from customers regarding coverage under our travel protection plans:

Where can I find updated travel advisories and alerts for the Coronavirus?

The coronavirus outbreak has caused many airlines to cancel or delay flights to destinations that have been heavily affected by the epidemic. It is wise to keep up to date about health advisories and travel advisories related to your travel plans. There are several sources of travel information including the World Health Organization WHO and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC. Trawick International® also has our own Coronavirus News and Updates page that consolidates both health and travel advisories in one location for easy access.

Do I have the ability to cancel my trip?

Cancelling a trip is a personal decision and should be made based on your own criteria. In order to be considered for benefits your cancellation must fall under a “covered reason”. Certain travel protection plans may provide coverage if you have been diagnosed with COVID-19, or are under quarantine.

Prior to canceling your trip, please review the Trip Cancellation section of your plan to determine covered reasons for which you may be eligible to receive reimbursement or a refund or credit.

Please check with your travel provider to see if you can cancel or reschedule your trip without incurring fees or penalties and regarding potential refund, travel credit, or rescheduling options.

Can I cancel my trip if I am scared to travel?

Being cautious in these uncertain times is completely understandable and some travelers may wish to cancel trip based on Coronavirus fears. Fear or concern of traveling is generally not a covered reason for cancelling your trip. Please get in touch with our customer support team to get details about your specific case. In most cases, you will need to have a plan with Cancel for Any Reason Coverage. If your travel protection plan includes Cancel for Any Reason benefits, you may be covered for a percentage of the loss in the form or a credit or refund based on the terms of your specific plan.

What if my flight is delayed or cancelled by the airline due to COVID-19?

If your flight is delayed or cancelled, Trip Interruption, Missed Connection and Travel Delay benefits may be available. Please check your specific travel protection plan for terms and conditions. Time restrictions may apply. Also, please check with your travel provider to determine your options.

I missed my flight because of long wait time due to coronavirus screenings. Will I be covered?

Travel insurance will not cover missing flights because of extra time spent at airport security or screenings. It is recommended that travelers arrive early to accommodate for enhanced health checks due to the Coronavirus.

Is it possible to cancel my trip because of a travel advisory?

Trip cancellation benefits are given if a covered reason is the cause of the cancellation. Travel advisory from the State Department or other government bodies are not covered reasons.

My doctor has recommended that I do not travel. Can I cancel my trip?

If your doctor thinks you shouldn’t travel due to your age, an underlying condition, or even just to be safe, this unfortunately is not covered unless you have Cancel for Any Reason.

Can I get medical coverage if I get infected by coronavirus during my trip?

If you become ill with COVID-19 while on your trip and your plan includes medical expense coverage, you may be covered for Medical Expense and Trip Interruption benefits with a confirmed diagnosis, including proof of illness from a doctor, or evidence that you are subject to quarantine. Please review your specific plan for the details and limits of such coverage.

If I have booked a trip that leaves at some future date and my destination is affected by COVID-19, will I receive reimbursement if I cancel my trip?

As almost all destinations are currently impacted by COVID-19, coverage depends on a number of factors, including, but not limited to: (1) the terms of your specific travel protection plan; (2) your destination; (3) your reason for cancelling; and (4) the availability of a refund or credit from you travel provider.
Fear or concern of traveling is generally not a covered reason for cancelling your trip. However, certain travel protection plans may provide coverage if you have been diagnosed with COVID-19, are under quarantine or are traveling to a destination that is currently under a CDC travel restriction.

If I rebook my trip for a later date, will my original travel protection plan cover the rebooked trip dates?

If you postpone your trip due to COVID-19, your current travel protection plan may extend to your new trip dates provided:
The new trip dates are no more than 18 months from your original trip dates.
Additional costs, if required based on the new or postponed trip, will be collected. Plan costs will not be reduced or refunded for coverage for the new or postponed trip.

If my travel protection plan includes Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) benefits and I cancel my trip, am I covered?

If your travel protection plan includes CFAR benefits, you may be covered for a percentage of the loss in the form or a credit or refund based on the terms of your specific plan. The availability of this coverage may be impacted by when you purchased your plan, the trip cost you elected to cover, and when you cancel your trip. Please refer to your plan documents for specific details as coverage may vary by state and plan.

Can I add CFAR coverage to my existing travel protection plan?

If you have an existing travel protection plan, you will not be able to add CFAR coverage to that plan at a later date. If available, CFAR coverage may generally only be included at the time of original purchase within the time sensitive period listed in your plan. Scope and availability of CFAR coverage may also vary by state and plan.
